~1/4 Japan Trip 5
Happy New Year sign at Centrair

1/5 I woke up at 6:30am I must be tired from lack of sleep... The outside was at 21F, went to work on time. It's good to see the teammates. Since I had no time to prepare lunch, I went to Jimmy John's for a sub. I became really sleep around 3:00pm so I decided to stay at work a bit longer. I left the place around 6:00pm, drove to a Japanese grocery store then Meijer for fuel and milk. Drove back home, stayed up until 11:00pm. I wanted to renew subscription on Antivirus software, which I can only find at full price at NewEgg.com and BestBuy.com but amazon.com had a lot cheaper price than other two.
1/6 [15th Anniversary of Nancy Kerrigan attack at Joe Louis Arena]
I woke up at 12:30am then again 3:30am, until I finally giving up to sleep at 5:00am. It's pretty cold at 7F outside... Isn't this a bit too harsh for a guy who just returned from a warmer place?! The temp even came down to 5F around 6:30am. Drove to wok on time, worked on assignments. Had lunch, and dinner at work. I also stopped by at chiropractics to reset my back. Drove home around 7:00pm, took things easy as well as calling friends to let them know that I came back to the U.S. I went to bed around 10:30pm. I need more time of sleeping...
1/7 I could not stay sleep so I woke up at 2:30am once then again at 3:30am. I gave up to sleep so I got up at 4:00am. Maybe I can go to gym. There is a winter weather advisory in effect so I guess I need to drive careful this morning. 29F and foggy, according the weather.com. I had to scrape off ice from my car before going to LTF at 6:30am, the shower was out of order after I worked out, so I reported to work early but with no shower... Steady snow expected all day, and many schools are delayed. Went to work and stayed until 9:00pm. Drove home but the car was coated with half inches of snow. The road was frozen at some portion so my car was skidding as it comes down hills. So I drove carefully to home but pretty sleepy too. I am glad when I get there. Stayed up until 11:00pm and went to bed. I hope I won't wake up again like last night.
1/8 I woke up at  8:00am, I guess I must have been quite sleepy... It's clear sky, 24F and not much snow from the last night, maybe up to half inches. Reported to work, stayed until 9:00pm. I was pretty tired so I decided to drive home straight instead of working out at LTF. Come home, went to bed around 11:00pm.
1/9 Woke up on time at 6:00am, headed to work on time. A snow advisory is issued for this evening to tomorrow morning so I should be prepared. Went to a Japanese restaurant with my coworkers for lunch. Stayed until 7:30pm at office, the outside was already snowy so I had to remove them before heading to LTF for workout. I had pretty good time there but had to remove the snow again before heading home. Had dinner around 9:00pm, went to bed around midnight. Let's see how much snow we are going to get over night...
1/10 Woke up at 8:30am, already snowed about 1 inch, Temperature in the low 20s headed outside to workout around 11:00pm. The road was slippery was expected. I had hard time merging to the freeway traffic because the wheels won't go to the lanes in main traffic. Drove to LTF for a short workout. I left there around 1:00pm. Stopped by at Best Buy to check out flatscreen TVs which are becoming more affordable. I am not ready to buy 33" one yet. At least I found a nice netbook from HP and alarm clock from Sony. I guess I will put them up on my wish list for this year... I wanted to check the next door, which is Dick's Sporting Goods before heading out so I went inside, got myself some replacement winter gears with clearance price. Just as I was making a turn outside of the Best Buy, my car span around at intersection where all traffic was stopped due to signal change. Man, I was lucky. I drove carefully to office to check out newspapers and practice saxophone a bit. I left there around 3:30pm, which the snow already accumulated to 6 inches. My car had hard time coming down the ramp because of the all snow. As I was driving, I have seen some wrecks. I drove to Meijer before coming home around 5:00pm. The snow continue falling very much whole day. Had salad and rice for the evening. (I already had a junk food for lunch...) Up dating my blogs for the evening. The winter storm warning was extended to 10:00pm tonight. Oh well... The snow was diminishing around 8:00pm, with weather report of 7-8inches. The snow on the ground was getting taken care of around 9:30pm, finally they come. Talked with my dad for a while in the evening and went to bed after midnight.
One of car wrecks on I-275.
1/11 I woke up at 8:00am, foggy outside with 16F. The snow is over I guess. Went to workout at LTF in the morning, spent about one hour there since it was not that crowded as yesterday. Left around 12:40pm. Drove to Meijer before coming home around 1:30pm. Had lunch, relaxed for the afternoon. The outside was snowing again. I hope the commute on Monday morning won't be affected. When I stepped out around 5:00pm, the outside looks like evening already. Stayed up until midnight before going to bed. It's going to be a cold week...
Snow stopped, for now...

1/12 [Detroit has cerebrated the 50th anniversary of Motown Record]
Woke up at 6:30am, 12F outside and expecting some snow over the day. Went to work and stayed until 7:30pm. I drove to Dick's Sporting since they forget to remove the anti theft tag from a shirt I bought over the weekend. Headed to LTF for workout. I stayed only for half hour because I was getting bad headache while I was at office. Come home around 9:00pm, had dinner and worked on my web page for a while. No snow over the day but expecting some over night. Let's see what's going to happen. Going to bed around 11:30pm as the monitor on my PC shows a lot of snow on weather.com.
1/13 I woke up at 6:30am, 32F outside but -4F expected tomorrow morning... Went to a car dealer to get my car's oil changed, got a ride to office around 8:30am. The outside was snowing and people driving with some difficulties. Worked all day in office and meeting room so I did not know the sky is clear until I went out to pick up my car. The crack on the windshield got expended almost 5 times. It's about the time to replace. Stayed until 8:00pm and outside temperature is already 10F. Drove to LTF for workout before coming back. Went to bed at midnight with outside temperature of 3F.
1/14 As I suspected, the temperature was pretty low of -2F as of 7:00am when I get out from the bed. I can also see that although we had no snow over the night, but now something is coming from the west. Went to work, and everybody comments on this cold day. Went out to grab lunch, realizing it's snowing outside. I guess I have to be prepared when I come home tonight. My coworker coming back from customer's location told me that there are many wrecks on freeway. I left office around 9:00pm, had hard time dealing with frozen wiper blades which stuck against windshield... Drove slowly and carefully on the way back. I come home, relaxed for a bit. Went to bed after 11:00pm which is around 3F and expecting tomorrow morning around -5F.
1/15 Woke up at 6:00am once but fell back to sleep. I stayed in bed until 7:00am as result... When I checked the temperature on the net, it was -5F as expected, nice... It was a sunny morning and I had hard time removing the frost on the car's windows. Hard pain on my ears while standing at outside at least it was not that windy... Arrived to work as usual. The temperature over the day stayed in single digit. Stayed until 8:00pm, headed home straight. The new alarm clock I placed order was arrived so I place it in my bed room. I wanted this one so bad since I saw it at Best Buy last time. Headed to bed around 11:00pm again, the temperature is at 2F right now...
New CD/iPod alarm clock I bought. The design is so cool... (And why I always buy Sony then?!)
1/16 [One of major electric appliance store, Circuit City, announced they are going out of business]
Woke up at 6:00am, the temperature outside was -12F, with wind chill warning in effect. I got up and feeling a bit cold in my room. Icicles by the bedroom window grown so big too. When I go outside, I could feel something freezing up in my nose. I had to wear a pair of gloves and a cap to avoid being frostbitten. The sky was clear but my car was frosted up very much. I needed to wrestle for a while in order for my car to be ready. Reported to work, visited a funeral house for a coworker's viewing. He looked like having a good life. Typical guy's hobbies, like motorcycle, watches, convertibles, and cameras. The sun was warming up the street sand my car so it was nice to drive around, and icicles at my apartment mostly fell. Stopped by at my apartment before heading back to the office. Stayed until 7:30pm and headed to LTF for workout. I drove to Meijer for fuel and groceries before coming home around 9:50pm. The outside Temp was -2F already. Going to bed around 11:30pm, with Temp of -5F.
Morning sun through icicles
1/17 Woke up at 6:00am, still sub zero, -3F outside. While I am sitting in the living room, I can feel the chill coming from the windows... Left home around 8:30am to go to Cobo Center to visit NAIAS 2009. I arrived there around 9:10am, went up to the root of the center for parking which is $10. Paid another $12 to get in. They had new Toyota Prius, and also new Honda Insight. I stayed until 11:30am, snowing outside. Drove up to LTF for workout left there at 1:50pm and stopped by at One World Market before coming home. had lunch and spent afternoon and evening easy. The snow stopped after dinner, and I think we had about 3 inches over today. I called my brother and dad. Went to bed around 11:30pm.
Chevy Volt (More pictures from NAIAS)
1/18 Woke up at 7:00am, snow stopped and clear sky. It's 17F so this is much warmer than past few days. The sky got cloudy and scatter snow arrived this area. I left home at noon for LTF for workout. There road was not totally clear of snow and saw an accident in a couple of places along the way. The road under bridges were also frozen so I had to take extra caution. Left there around 2:00pm then headed to the office, which parking was not taken care of yet. I left there around 4:30pm and drove to Meijer before coming home. I get to see the sun coming down to the level which partially hidden by thick snow cloud, which looked pretty. Back home around 6:00pm, and had dinner (I thought I cooked rice, but must have forgot to prepare for it...) Relaxed for the evening, just trying to watch on my shoulders which are complaining for the past weekends when I go swim. It's flexible still but some source says colder air and office work make the muscles around the shoulder stiff. Maybe. It's still 19F in the evening but going down to 10F by tomorrow morning. Went to bed after midnight.

1/19 Woke up at 6:00am, it was 11F but lowered to 9F around 7:30am, I guess that happens sometimes since the sunrise is near 8:00am these days. Reported to work driving under clear sky. My dad called me on the cell phone in the morning, he just wanted to check if the number is right... My, he scared a heck out of me. I hate getting phone call from my home these days... Stayed until 7:30pm and drove home. I started to write letter to mom but not much. Went to bed early since I was not feeling well. (I don't have fever, though...)
1/20 [President's Inauguration Day at Washington D.C.]
Woke up at 6:00am, lowered to 6F before dawn. Another sunny morning and the frost on the car was very easy somehow. Drove to work, stayed inside of the office. My coworkers were checking out the inauguration on the net. Streaming video allows that, and maybe in the next term, people maybe watching it on their cell phone. 15F for the daily high. Drove to a chiropractics in the evening. Stayed at work until 8:00pm, drove to work (I actually want to go workout but I am not feeling well). Pretty cold, like 2F by the time when I went to bed at 10:00pm but I fell sleep with lights on while I was reading a book. So I had to go sleep again around 12:30am.
1/21 Woke up at 6:00am, it was 6F so I guess it is warmer than when I went to bed last night. Went to work, and expected the temperature to go up around 25F. Had to stay at office until 9:30pm to get everything done for the day. Drove home, went to bed around 11:00pm.
1/22 Woke up at 6:00am, almost 20F at outside. It is pretty warm compare to the last two weeks and expected to go up to 31F. No need to scrape frost off the car so I could just head to work under cloudy sky. Up to 28F. Stayed until 10:00pm because of a meeting with our Japan office. Come home, went to bed...
1/23 Woke up at 6:00am, went to work with 17F outside. The temperature kept going up to 36F. A female coworker asked me how my mother's doing in the morning. I guess she caught me when I worrying about her. It was a surprise. I spent some time writing a letter to my mom, and sent it over email so my dad can print it out and bring it to her sometimes today. Went to Jimmy John's by myself for lunch because I was pretty busy. I called home around 5:00pm since my mom's condition sounds pretty bad, and also to let my dad know that I sent him an email. Since no one answered, I worried two things. One was my mom's condition is serious, the other is my dad's stressed out and ill I got a call from my dad after 6:00pm, telling me that my mom's having hard time breathing... Stayed at office until 7:00pm and drove to LTF. Snow started to come down just as I was leaving the office and falling moderately when I come out from workout. I drove to Meijer for grocery shopping. When I stepped outside from the store, the pavement was coated with a thin layer of snow, so I had to drive carefully when I was coming home. I arrived at home around 10:00pm. Stayed up until 11:30pm. The temperature outside is still 23F but expected to go down to 8F tomorrow morning... Sounds windy outside.
Accumulation of snow
1/24 Woke up at 6:00am as usual, the outside is still dark and getting chilly in the room. Had breakfast and took care of neglected house stuffs. 11F outside but sunny when I head outside for workout around 10:00am. Went to LTF for workout, left there after noon, drove to Burger King before stopping by at the office. I stayed until 2:00pm then headed to a Japanese grocery store. The temperature was staying at 16F, very much the same as when I left home. Had dinner, the temperature was coming down to 9F, expected to be at 1F by tomorrow morning. Called home a bit earlier than usual to give my dad more time. I mismanaged my time so I went to bed well after midnight.
Morning
1/25 Woke up at 8:00am, outside was at 3F, did not want to do anything for the morning but went to LTF for workout in the afternoon. Many people working out just like yesterday. Left there by 2:00pm, stopped by at a couple of stores and come home around 4:00pm. Stayed up until midnight and went to bed.  Expected to come down to 0F by the morning.

1/26 Woke up at 6:00am, -2F outside, went to work and stayed until 8:00pm because I had to call Japan office then headed home. It was snowing a bit, the road was covered. With calm wind, the snow flakes coming down quietly and breaking off to pieces while hitting windshield of my car while waiting for the signal to change to green. Come home with not much issues, went to bed around midnight.
Snow falling in the night
1/27 Woke up at 6:00am, 7F outside. Snow fall over night only gave us about a quarter of inches. Expecting an ice storm from the evening so I need to be prepared. I went to work, hopped outside for a sub at Jimmy John's for lunch. It was sunny alright, I cannot believe the weather is going to be bad tonight. My dad called me around 4:00pm, telling my mom's blood pressure is very low and he is going to the hospital. I left the office at 8:00pm to go workout. I got out of LTF around 9:30pm, when light snow started to fall. The snow flake was a lot smaller than yesterday's. I drove to a gas station nearby to fill up the tank because I might be on the move tomorrow. I started to doing a load of laundry since I have a gut feeling. My dad called me again around 10:40pm to let me know that my mom passed away. I reserved a round trip ticket to Nagoya, and I will be leaving tomorrow.
