Rokko Trail Walk 2010

Introduction:

One of the thing I like about Kobe is that the place is surrounded by nature; ocean to the south, and mountain is to the north.

Part 1 2010/9/4: Suma to Myohoji

Moving from my apartment to Suma station

I woke up at 5:30am, left the apartment around 8:00am, walking to a supermarket nearby to buy supplies for today's walk. Walked to Nishi-Akashi station to catch a train to Suma. I started my Rokko Mountain trail walk today. Arriving at Suma station at 8:30am, headed to west, walked inside of Sumaura Park, to the foot of mountain at 9:14am. (Done)

After arriving to the mountain foot of Mt. Hachibuse, I started to going up. There was a ropeway station there and saw people waiting to board. Since I have not done much of workouts recently, going up hilly trail was pretty tough. I could feel my sweat racing down my face like standing under shower. My heart's pounding so hard that I don't need to check pulse from my arm or neck. I get passed by folks much older than me from behind many times. In addition, I had to take breaks several times on the way then finally reached the summit.

Mt. Hachibuse(9:30am) -> Looking toward east

On the way to the top of the mountain, I had to stop for a rest because I was out of breath and sweating really bad. I looked around and saw the view toward Suma to the east and Akashi bridge to the west. It's nice to be

I was passed by older man and lady while I was taking a break. They are climbing like a regular thing.

looking toward west Mt. Hatafuri (9:45am)

As I was walking passed the small (tea?) house there, I met a couple of elderly men talking about the hot weather.

At 10:09am, I was walking in a trail in the woods, which is cooler than walking under open sky. The trail signs were pretty hard to get it.

Arriving at Oraga tea house at 10:15am. There were couple of people walking around like me.. It was supposed to be a tea house but they were not open for the day.

After walking for a while, I reached to a place where paved road leading to Mt. Oraga

Taking a series of stairs down, then I have arrived to a residential area. Walking passed a supermarket and post office then walked on bridge toward east

I know there will be about 1.5 hours of day light left for the day, and started worry if there is a train still on schedule to go down. I asked some hikers on the way, and found out many have the same opinion. This worries me more. When I walked into the station around 4:25pm, I found there are people waiting and the last train is around 9:00pm.

I arrived there by 10:00am and started to walk toward the mountains. The leaves on trees are not completely changed the colors yet.
